Term 3 is a stressful time for language teachers as we wait with bated breath to see if an elective class is going to run. This workshop will look at research that explains why this is such a challenge for us and will provide practical tips to turn the tide in our favour. Behaviour design research offers many answers to the question – “Why don’t students choose languages in Australia?” 

In this webinar you will learn to:

  • avoid repeating common marketing errors such as Information-Action Fallacy
  • recognize the type of cognitive slumber you are fighting in your school community
  • create a marketing plan for the short term (subject selection materials) and longer term (changing classroom and school culture) 

We will look at how to motivate students through concepts such as temptation bundling, habit stacking, implementation intentions and systems that influence class culture. These concepts will be unpacked, and participants will be provided with concrete examples of how to do this in the Languages classroom through assessment tasks and classroom systems. Go into battle in 2021 with a new insight and a strategic plan for change to maximise student motivation and ultimately, your elective enrolments.
