Participants will hear from Dr Carolyn Sttot, Senior Lecturer of French and Francophone Studies at the University of Sydney and from Kate Wang, the Chinese language coordinator at Rouse Hill High School, in Sydney’s north west.
One of Dr Sttot’s areas of research is the transition in languages education from the secondary to the tertiary sector and Mrs Wang is responsible for establishing and growing the profile of Mandarin language at her school by creating the extension language program for year 7 students, an elective course in years 9 / 10 and an extra-curricular interest group called “China Club.”
They will be discussing strategies and initiatives for successful transition at different levels of students’ language studies. There will be opportunities for discussions among participants and with both speakers.
