My Story
Merryl Wahlin has been an active member of the MLTANSW for over 15 years. She served as a Committee member from 2010-2012, as President from 2012–2014, as Vice-President from 2014-2016 and as Executive Officer from 2017–2018. She was the recipient of the Professional Teachers’ Council Outstanding Professional Service Award (2015) in recognition of her continuous support of language teachers and education through the MLTANSW.
Merryl initiated strategies to increase collaboration and strengthen Languages education in NSW such as Professional Learning events, Accents editorial and teacher scholarships. She developed initiatives to strengthen the voice of MLTANSW with the introduction of school memberships. Merryl initiated and implemented strategies to raise the profile of Languages in NSW schools with the Denise Soos student scholarships. She has represented MLTANSW members at state (BOSTES/NESA) and national (AFMLTA) forums.
She has provided members with regular updates on state and national trends and developments in Languages education. She has collaborated with other Executive Officers to revise and update the Constitution of the MLTANSW.
Merryl has generously donated many hours and expertise to present both face to face and online workshops, keynotes and TeachMeets for MLTANSW, AFMLTA, The Association of Independent Schools and the Department of Education. She has initiated, organised and
facilitated the delivery of a number of cross-sectoral Languages Conferences.
